报告摘要

Chicken, egg, or both: Epidemiological study of sleep and neurodegeneration

Growing evidence suggests a close link between sleep disturbances and adverse health outcomes in older adults. However, many research gaps remain to be filled. In this presentation, Dr. Leng will present a series of epidemiological studies, both cross-sectional and longitudinal, that focused on sleep, daytime napping and disruption of circadian rhythms as measured objectively by actigraphy and incident Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD). Furthermore, she will highlight their recent findings using data from the UK biobank and Mendellian randomization to explore the nature and direction of the relationship. Finally, Leng will discuss the implications of their findings, i.e. whether sleep disturbances are prodromal, symptom or risk factor of neurodegenerative diseases.
