Center for Applied Statistics, Renmin University of China

The applied statistical science research center of Renmin University of China is one of the 100 key research bases of Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. It was established in September 2000, and its predecessor was the Institute of statistical science of Renmin University of China established in 1988.

The research center actively cultivates young and middle-aged academic backbones, and gradually develops and forms four distinctive research directions: Economic and social statistics, statistical investigation and data analysis, risk management and Actuarial Science, and biological health statistics. The key research platform for the construction of the center is as follows: 1. 2. Application Research of modern statistical technology and method. 3. Innovation and application of actuarial technology. 4. Development and application of biomedical statistical technology.

At present, there are 36 full-time and part-time researchers in the research center, including five research rooms: mathematical statistics, economic and social statistics, risk management and Actuarial Science, biostatistics and epidemiology, and data science and big data statistics. Four research centers: competitiveness and Evaluation Research Center, data mining center, risk management and actuarial center, statistical consulting research center. At the same time, the center has been working closely with academic groups such as China National Accounting Research Association, Beijing Biomedical Statistics and Data Management Research Association.

The research center has domestic first-class researchers, undertakes a number of national and Ministry of education projects, and has obtained fruitful research results. In the past five years (from January 2016 to April 2020), researchers of the center have published nearly 20 monographs, translations and teaching materials, published nearly 300 papers, and completed and under research projects of about 150, including 24 projects of the state and the Ministry of education.

The scientific research center of Applied Statistics always takes the establishment and development of Applied Statistics discipline base as its strategic orientation, and focuses on the formulation of scientific planning for applied statistical research, selection of scientific research direction in close contact with reality, emphasis on long-term accumulation of research work, and strengthening the construction of key research platform.
